As
Phyl explains in one of her Reverend Mother monologues on the “Curtains
Up” CD, when she tried out for the Reverend Mother role in Nunsense,
she just did her imitation of the Reverend Mother at Sisters of Mercy. Everything
else was “just me”. So after a successful three years of “playing
herself” in the show, the Reverend Mother became highly sought after
for her comedic relief to "roast" groups and individuals at various
events and. gatherings. Some of her favorite venues recently are to perform
in hospice settings where her wit is as healing as it is entertaining.
In real life, Phyl Contestable joined the convent to "see the world". Now, as Reverend Mother, she is determined to visit every corner of the globe, using her status as Superior General of her order.
