Alan and Phyl will treat you to light and lovely tunes as well as the naughty, baudy and bold!

With her partner in entertainment and good friend for over twenty years, Phyl Contestable and Alan Jones have been "Rochester's Premier Cabaret Duo". They started at the Changing Scene revolving restaurant in downtown Rochester for what was supposed to be a two-week contract – they left four years later.

They have since performed as the opening act for Bill Cosby, Rich Little and Jackie Mason and have been guest artists with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brockport Symphony. They have appeared at Trump's Castle in Atlantic City, the Concord Hotel, The 1000 Islands Club, The Royal York Hotel in Toronto and performed at the Rochester Ryder Cup and the LPGA 2004 festivities. After the Nunsense evolution of Reverend Mother, the warm and wacky nun often makes guest appearances during performances.

As a follow-on to the duo's debut album "Her Name is Phyl", recently Phyl and Alan have released their second recording - a live performance called "Curtains Up" (listen to excerpts).

Rochester’s Jewish Community Center invited the duo to write and perform a special show celebrating George Gershwin's 100th birthday. The show played to sold out audiences. Alan also wrote and performed a one-man show celebrating the 100th birthday of Irving Berlin, also for the JCC.

Phyl is a General Music Specialist at Churchville-Chili Intermediate School. Phyl received the 2000 Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Music Teacher of the Year award for her outstanding contribution to the field of Music Education and was featured as a Fox TV Teacher of the week. The Italian American Community Center in Rochester honored her in 2003 as "Woman of the Year in the Arts".

Alan Jones is the Director of Choral Music at Spencerport High School and is the NYS School Music Association's Sectional Festival Committee Vocal Jazz Chairperson. Alan is very active as an All-State adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor. Alan's work as educator, songwriter, arranger and performer has gained him listing in Who's Who of American Teachers. He also serves on the music staff of the Downtown Presbyterian Church and received the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra award in 2002 for "Choral Director of the Year".

"Their music is a mix of familiar and forgotten, the tender and bawdy, the classic and contemporary. Contestable and Jones are polished and sophisticated performers."
